January 2009

The current outlook for 2009 is for another reasonably significant crop, at least similar in size to 2008. There is currently little evidence that might suggest otherwise. If anywhere near the entire crop is harvested, this will be in excess of the Australian wine industry’s current annual sales, so it is less likely that the general market for Australian bulk wine will rise. Indeed, it is likely that we may see further falls in the bulk wine prices over the next 12 months.

Jim Moularadellis from Australia’s bulk wine specialists, Austwine, analyses the pending 2009 vintage and the resultant likely outcomes in the bulk wine market.
